Barcelona is committed to becoming a city of science. This will be possible thanks to its huge potential as a knowledge creation hub and its ability to deliver that knowledge to society as a whole, through a wide range of science and technology dissemination activities offered by the city’s cultural and scientific community.

It is in this spirit that the Science Festival was held on 9-10 June at a venue as emblematic as the Parc de la Ciutadella. This year’s Science Festival was the 12th edition of an event, that is open to everyone. Numerous activities were offered during the weekend in a variety of formats, including workshops and demonstrations, talks and debates, tours and circuits, games and shows, and art installations.

The Science Festival is always a great opportunity to put society in touch with research conducted in the city. The activities were about new materials, the environment, robotics, astronomy, data and numbers, virtual reality, citizen science, neuroscience, biomedicine, etc. The Festival wants to put all this knowledge in the limelight, so that experts from different centres can tell everyone about it.

Organised by Barcelona’s Culture Institute, this year’s Festival was bigger than ever thanks to the participation of more than 160 institutions, research centres, universities, organisations and dissemination professionals: over nearly 20 hours of programming, 230 activities will be offered in 33 spaces to attract everyone, from kids to teenagers and adults.

All this was the 12th Barcelona Science Festival, an amazing encounter between research & innovation and citizens, a group effort by numerous stakeholders that want not only to highlight the value of asking questions and finding answers based on reasoning and experimentation, but also to contribute to the necessary dialogue between science and society in order to confront the challenges that we as a society will face in the future.
